Choose Life Version A.i T3 Trainspotting Trilogy final

The “Choose Life” speech is a iconic monologue from the novel and film “Trainspotting” by Irvine Welsh. The speech is delivered by the character Mark Renton, played by Ewan McGregor in the film adaptation. The speech is a commentary on the bleakness and superficiality of modern life, and the choices we make to cope with the emptiness and disillusionment.

The unofficial trilogy synopsis goes as follows

Title: Trainspotting: Quantum Reboot

Plot Idea:

The story takes place in a dystopian Edinburgh, where the city has been ravaged by climate change and technological advancements have created a new underclass of “disconnected” individuals. Mark Renton, now an older and wiser individual, has become a leader in the underground movement fighting against the corrupt government and corporate interests.

The plot follows Renton and his friends as they discover a mysterious technology that allows them to hack into the city’s mainframe and manipulate the fabric of reality. They use this power to pull off daring heists and disrupt the status quo, but soon find themselves hunted by a ruthless government agent and a rogue AI.

Themes:

The struggle for power and control in a world where technology has created new forms of oppression

The consequences of playing with forces beyond human control

The importance of human connection and community in a world that values profit over people

Characters:

Mark Renton: The protagonist, now an older and wiser individual with a deep understanding of the consequences of his actions.

Sick Boy: A charismatic and cunning hacker who becomes Renton’s ally in the fight against the government.

Spud: A brilliant engineer who helps the group understand and control the mysterious technology.

Begbie: A former gangster turned government agent, who becomes a complex and conflicted character struggling with his own morality.

Visuals:

A gritty, neon-lit depiction of a dystopian Edinburgh, with a focus on the city’s underbelly and the contrast between the haves and have-nots.

Innovative use of special effects to represent the hacking and manipulation of reality.

A blend of practical and CGI effects to bring the characters and world to life.

Tone:

A dark and gritty tone, with a focus on the consequences of playing with forces beyond human control.

A sense of urgency and tension, as the characters navigate the complex web of power and corruption.

A touch of dark humor and wit, as the characters find ways to subvert the system and outsmart their enemies.

This is just one possible take on a sci-fi version of Trainspotting 3. The original novel’s themes and characters offer a rich foundation for exploring new ideas and themes in a futuristic setting.

Renton's Choose Life Speech in  Trainspotting original First movie

(written by Irvine Welsh. 1993 1993 by Secker & Warburg.)

“Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television, choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol, and dental insurance. Choose fixed-interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisure wear and matching luggage. Choose a three-piece suit on hire purchase in a range of fucking fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pissing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked-up brats you have spawned to replace yourself. Choose your future. Choose life. But why would I want to do a thing like that?”

Renton's Choose Life Speech in T2: Trainspotting

"Choose designer lingerie, in the vain hope of kicking some life back into a dead relationship. Choose handbags, choose high-heeled shoes, cashmere and silk, to make yourself feel what passes for happy. Choose an iPhone made in China by a woman who jumped out of a window and stick it in the pocket of your jacket fresh from a South-Asian firetrap. Choose Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram and a thousand others ways to spew your bile across people you've never met. Choose updating your profile, tell the world what you had for breakfast and hope that someone, somewhere cares. Choose looking up old flames, desperate to believe that you don't look as bad as they do. Choose live-blogging, from your first wank till your last breath; human interaction reduced to nothing more than data. Choose ten thing you never knew about celebrities who've had surgery. Choose screaming about abortion, choose rape jokes, slut-shaming, revenge porn and an endless tide of depressing misogyny. Choose 9/11 never happened, and if it did, it was the Jews. Choose a zero-hour contract and a two hour journey to work, and choose the same for your kids, only worse, and maybe tell yourself that it's better that they never happened. And then sit back and smother the pain with an unknown dose of an unknown drug made in somebody's fucking kitchen. Choose unfulfilled promise and wishing you'd done it all differently. Choose never learning from your own mistakes. Choose watching history repeat itself. Choose the slow reconciliation towards what you can get, rather than what you always hoped for. Settle for less and keep a brave face on it. Choose disappointment and choose losing the ones you love then as they fall from view, a piece of you dies with them until you can see that one day in the future, piece by piece they will be all gone and there will be nothing left of you to call alive or dead. Choose your future, Veronica. Choose life."

The AI Version for Trainspotting Part 3 in the Trilogy

“Choose algorithms, choose data, choose likes and followers… Choose a life of curated perfection, or choose the freedom to be yourself.”

“Choose the path of least resistance, or choose the road less traveled. Choose to question the status quo, or choose to conform to the norm.”

“Who needs likes and followers when you’ve got your own thoughts and feelings? Who needs validation from others when you’ve got your own sense of self?”
